Building Forecasting

Analysis and forecasts of your industry and your markets. Giving you strategically important information to guide decisions.
About Work Done

Following discussions held with several major clients of BIS Shrapnel, the need for a forecasting and monitoring service on building work flows was identified.

The Work Done forecasts cover residential and non-residential building and are intended to more accurately determine future demand for building materials and labour.

Our Work Done services complement our other reports which provide building analysis and forecasts based on commencements.

Forecasting and monitoring service on work done in the residential and non-residential building sectors, by state. The service provides once a year forecasts for the next five years.

The Service

Long Term Work Done provides annual forecasts five years ahead, by state and building type. Subscribers receive one report in August. This service is best suited for clients involved in long term planning and strategy.

You get a report in PDF and hard copy, and the subscription includes data in tabular form, graphs, major non-residential project listings and commentary on the forecasts. All information is provided in a user-friendly format and desk support is provided as part of the service.

Methodology

An econometric model is utilised relating building commencements to work done data. The non-residential model takes into account each of the 15 non-residential building types (ie. offices, shops, factories, etc.) as well as the following four value range categories (<$5m, $5–20m, $20–50m, >$50m).

Wherever the econometric model fails to fully explain the relationship between commencements and work done, additional information is collected and amendments made if necessary. A similar procedure is utilised with the residential model, segmented into detached houses, medium density and high density dwellings.

Extension work available

More detailed data splits are available for clients with more specific data requirements. These Work Done Supplements include forecasts by sub-state geography, by value range and by industry sub-sector. Contact us for further detail on such options.
