Kim Hawtrey is a provider of strategic business intelligence and policy options relating to the building economy. Based in the Sydney office, Kim is involved in overseeing several flagship BIS Shrapnel publications including Building in Australia, Building Industry Prospects and Regional Building. He supervises the international series on Forestry Products, New Zealand and 11 Asian building economies. These industry reports are the result of research into specific markets and include forecasts of prospects.

Dr Hawtrey is a past member of the NSW Housing Affordability Taskforce (Department of Urban Affairs and Planning), Landcom board, and Resitech board (Housing NSW). He chaired the Affordable Housing National Consortium, a committee comprised of CEOs from leading housing industry bodies across Australia. He has been an invited platform speaker at the National Housing Conference.

For BIS Shrapnel clients Kim is engaged in commissioned projects and offers workshops to facilitate market planning and budgeting – by state, region and sector. He appears at the company's six-monthly forecasting conferences.
